The Dead Weather

Once again Jack White is utilizing his genius by creating another really cool super group 'The Dead Weather'. This time Jack White is offering up his drum skills, vocals and guitar. He's bought along Jack Lawrence from The Raconteurs (bass) and two new additions Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age (guitar) and Alison Mosshart of The Kills (vocals). I have only heard two tracks on youtube so I can't really pass judgement but I like the striped back stoner rock vibe I get from 'Hang You From the Heavens.' The album 'Horehound' is set to be released in June 2009. Let's hope it's as polished as both of The Raconteurs albums. Below is their cover of 'Are Friend's Electric?' by Gary Numan.

...and you will know us by the trail of dead

April is approaching and I have purchased a ticket for one of the most hard working cult bands out there "...and you will know us by the trail of dead." The new album "The century of self" cover features amazing blue ink artwork from the singer "Conrad" and is very much a combination of past and present albums. So instead of taking a new direction they have used the directions they have already been to which makes it a compelling listen. Supporting bands are "Middle Class Rut" and "The So So Glos" both bands have travelled across the Atlantic for this medium sized venue "Wedgewood Rooms."Don't miss out...

The Magic Numbers - Runnin' Out (Live from Glastonbury)

Great melodies, vocals and my favourite bit of all the snare pattern. Genius bit of drumming. Well written songs are so pleasing to the ear.

Football Stat Attack!

Gotta love wikipedia.

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - The Golden Age (Live)

The Von Bondies - C'mon C'mon (live on Letterman)

Gotta love some good popular rock'n'eggroll. Drummer spanks the snare with precision and gusto.

Richard Bone - Alien Girl

Some quirky electro pop. Reminds me of GameBoy fun.

Stewart Francis on Family (Mock the Week)

Thoughtful silly comedy from Stewart Francis.

FireFox 3 Most Important Add Ons

FireFox 3 has now entered our lives. Well why not make life a little sweeter. These add ons and theme are the best out there. I promise. They should come bundled with FireFox. But they have given you the choice and now you should take it. Enjoy efficient browsing.

British English Dictionary

Laura Marling - Ghosts (Live)

Easily the best live female vocals I've heard this year. Even tops Winehouse, but that's just my opinion. Have a listen.

Ida Maria - Queen Of The World (at Later with Jools Holland)

Norwegian rock sister Ida Maria is making upbeat fun popular punky tunes. Since I've come back from Spain I've been stumbling across loads of music that I heard before but forgot about. She was one of the artists.

Devendra Banhart - At the Hop

Modern Folk at its best. He reminds me of Marc Bolan and Fionn Reagan mixed together. Inspiring stuff. I'm surprised I have not heard him on the media'box or digital'waves. Suppose there is to much music about now days.

Ladyhawke - Paris Is Burning

I don't usually watch music channels. But I did and stumbled across this ballsy funk pop track when I was on holiday. She's a multi-instru'mental'ist and started off playing the drums. Another artist that I have found recently who is originally from New Zealand. Seems like they have a good scene over there.

Lykke Li - I'm Good, I'm Gone

I've heard she's compared to Bjork. I don't agree. But this tune is pretty catchy. The rest of their stuff I checked on myspace from the same album doesn't sound as good because it's more electronic. Looks like another band without a strong album just a good single. Ahh well we all get an opinion.

One Day As A Lion

Probably the coolest collaboration in modern music. Jon Theadore (ex Mars Volta Drummer) joins forces with the most talented power political singer of our times Zach De La Rocha on Keys. Check them out now before your forced to by the radio air waves.

Dizzee Rascal feat. Calvin Harris - Dance Wiv Me

Just found out this tune is number one. I'm pleased. It's catchy and I love it.

Dewey Cox on Drugs

>

The Subways - Alright

The Subways set to release a new album "All Or Nothing" this year have repackaged themselves to a higher market value. Looking polished and fresh. Nice tune but reminds me of their earlier stuff and Blink 182's newer tunes mixed together. Americans will love it. Can't complain because they are better than most pop rockers out there. I hope the rest of the album is more raw.

Learn Japanese with Keith Lemon

Keith Lemon's silly humour tickles me every time. His persona replicates the celebrities that are famous due to their stupidity. Big Brother has just started up again, so I'm sure we will see some more half brained celebrities over the next year.

Nike Football Advert

I usually hate adverts. Switching to another channel as soon as they begin. But this caught my eye. The camera direction is unlike any other I've seen. Sometimes the players almost look 3D. Quality of this video isn't amazing. So I hope you notice it on TV.

Blind Football World Cup

>

Playing football with eyesight is challenging for some people. So for these blind players it must be well challenging. It's funny that Brazil always have to win.

Gremlins in BT Buiness Advert

I never thought I would see Gremlins again but the classic little animatronic critters have appeared alongside Dragons' Den's Peter Jones for BT Business.

Hamish and Andy

At the end of last year I stumbled across a improvised comedy show called Thank God You're Here. The concept was taken from an Australian show with the same name. Hamish Blake (on the right in the photo) was a multiple winner on the Australian show and helped promote the UK version by appearing in the earlier episodes. His relaxed improvisations made me search for him online and I found he has a regular radio show with his friend Andy in Australia and a Podcast accompany it. Today I stumbled across their stuff on YouTube. Check it out.

Alphabeat - Fascination

You will find it hard to not like these pop indie rockers with their upbeat summer tune. Visually they look manufactured from the clothes styling of snap, crack and pop. Very vibrant and clean cut. Definitely will make it onto one of my summer play lists.

Infatuation or Love?

This is pretty interesting. Have a Read.

"There are some feelings we have when infatuated that we don’t have when we’re feeling love. Some of the “symptoms” of infatuation are; feelings of panic, uncertainty, overpowering lust, feverish excitement, impatience, and/or jealously.

When infatuated, we are thrilled, but not happy, wanting to trust, yet suspicious. There are lingering, nagging doubts about our “partner in infatuation” and their love for us. We’re miserable when they’re away, almost like we’re not complete unless we’re with them. It’s a rush and it’s intense. It’s difficult to concentrate. And most infatuation relationships have a high degree of sexual charge around them. Somehow being with them is not complete unless in ends in some type of sexual encounter.

Do any of these “symptoms” resemble feelings of love? Hardly. So why do we become infatuated? Where does it come from? Perhaps it’s biological.

When infatuated we experience a surge of dopamine that rushes through the brain causing us to feel good. Norepinephrine flows through the brain stimulating production of adrenaline (pounding heart). Phenylethalimine (found in chocolate) creates a feeling of bliss. Irrational romantic sentiments may be caused by oxytocin, a primary sexual arousal hormone that signals orgasm and feelings of emotional attachment. Together these chemicals sometimes override the brain activity that governs logic.

The body can build up tolerances to these chemicals so it takes more of the substance to get that special feeling of infatuation. People who jump from relationship to relationship may be craving the intoxicating effects of these substances and may be “infatuation junkies”.

When the chemical flood dries up, the relationship either moves into a loving romantic one or there is disillusionment, and the relationship ends."

Transformers 2007 Review

Before I even entered the cinema I had heard such things as "visually amazing and probably the best action film I have ever seen". So I was expecting great things. I had recently watched Die Hard and that is one well thought out action film. So I had something to compare it to.

The film started off well. Classic talk over beginning to explain the story. But then it all started going down hill for me. Pointless jokes thrown in and advertising of iPod within the first 10 minutes.

Fair enough it was visually impressive and showed off what can be done. But the direction of the cameras didn't help. As the transformers transform the camera seemed to be everywhere. So you couldn't see the change of some. Just lots of bits of metal spinning around didn't impress me. That being said their were a few good transformation shots.

The transformations are a bit unrealistic as well. I mean you see a car turn into something four cars worth. I liked the original toys and transformers because it seemed believable.

There was many pointless unrealistic bits. For example at one point a solider gets on a motorbike and heads towards a Decepticon. Manages to skid off the bike and be lying on his back perfectly sliding through the Decepticons legs while shooting.

I don't understand where Optimus Prime disappears to at one point. He seems to be with all the Autobots and then a fight begins in the city. He pisses off until you see Megatron then Optimus has a dramatic entrance.

Optimus Prime had a mouth. In my opinion this made him look stupid. He looked much more hard arse with his mouth guard . Fair enough he did have it when fighting. But robots do not need a mouth in the first place.

Overall this could have been a great film. It just wasn't taken seriously. Too many jokes and Hollywood franchising. A lot more time should have been spent on the story. Keeping it original not changing it and moulding it into something new.

I give this film 8/10 Brains.
It could have been executed better.
